Major events/experiential agencies/Times 100 companies regularly beat a path to the door of Pylon One when there is a requirement to design, build and deliver networks of size, significance and most importantly robustness.
One aspect that we all love about working at Pylon One, is the diversity of our work. That sounds a bit clichéd, but it’s true! Yes, we do spend much of our time supporting major global corporations deliver their events, but we also make valuable contribution to some very interesting exhibitions, conferences and event world sporting events.
At the ITU World Triathlon Series, the world’s fastest triathletes travel to iconic cities across the globe, to compete head-to-head in a bid to be ultimately crowned World Champion.
Pylon One were approached by Taylor Made events early in 2019 to provide communications consultancy services in advance of this years’ triathlon. The event covered a significant area of Leeds city centre and Roundhay park and we made recommendations with respect to design, methodology and approach which the organisers and Leeds city council were happy to embrace.
Andrew Taylor, Managing Director, Taylor Made Event Management said, “Having worked with Mike and the team on previous editions of the World Triathlon Series in Hyde Park prior to moving the event to Leeds, we knew the team at Pylon One would understand the importance of providing fast and reliable services to a challenging green field site. The event was broadcast live on BBC to an audience of more than 2 million as well as to millions more around the world and the importance of providing connectivity to timing providers, broadcasters, press, media and many other stakeholders was paramount.
We worked with Pylon One over a period of 7 months to establish our requirements and in turn, Pylon One established strong relationships with Leeds City Council to ensure the services provided were adequate, that the planning phase went to time, that the equipment was appropriate and that there was adequate resource and skills to implement on the ground during delivery.
We all enjoyed working with John, our Pylon One lead consultant and saw huge benefits from having an IT consultant with so much outdoor event experience providing advice and project management services in such a complex and high-profile event.”
When a leading search engine provider hires Dublin’s 3Arena, you know size matters. An event space that can take up to 13,000 visitors means we had our work cut out!
After installing in excess of 7,500 metres of temporary data cabling and 125 enterprise grade Wi Fi access points we had a data throughput across the network of 4.8Tb with 2800 concurrent Wi-Fi users.
Given who the client was and the audience, the network design needed to be bullet proof and robust to the highest degree.
Pylon One first delivered this event in 2017
The Society for World Interbank Financial Telecommunications, more commonly known as SWIFT, held their annual banking and financial conference, Sibos. The week-long event from 23-26 September 2019 was held at London’s ExCeL exhibition venue. The delegate numbers were higher than ever, with 11,000 visitors from 150 countries having access to over 300 exhibitor stands and multiple conference, keynote and break out areas
As most will know, ExCeL provides a massive area, a 100 acre site according to Wikipedia! Sibos covered a large percentage of both North and South halls. Given the significance and complexity of this event, Pylon One engaged with all stakeholders a year in advance of this year’s event to commence the planning and design process. At the peak of the day, there were 10,500 concurrent Wi-Fi users with a wapping 21.37Tb of data transferred over the duration of the event.
Planning for Sibos 2020 has already commenced which will be in Boston USA.
Pylon One have contributed to the success of this event since 2015.
As we support global brands, travel is second nature to Pylon One. We have provided the network to all Bonhams “off-site sales” for the automobile and bikes departments since 2015. The Bonhams sale in Geneva, Switzerland was indeed a very special sale, featuring around 25 supercars. The sale took place in the 12th-century Bonmont Abbey on the shores of Lake Geneva, and being of that age, the Abbey presented its own unique challenges! The team once again ensured that the event communications ran as expected and watched on with amazement as one of the cars fetched a record breaking $8,337,182!!
Incredibly, 10 cars attracted a total spend of in excess of $27 million.
Mike Lang, Sales and Marketing Director, Pylon One Limited said, “It is extremely satisfying and humbling that our expertise and technical prowess are recognised and validated by events and leading brands, such as all of the above, who return to us year after year. Size matters as it is vitally important to us as a company that we continue to provide a high level of excellence, along with an ever-increasing portfolio of new products and services to ensure we continue to deliver and exceed expectation at ALL events, regardless of size.
